Summer in Gersau

Wandern mit Kindern

Gersau boasts an impressive 70 km of marked hiking trails. The well-maintained network features everything from easy walks to challenging mountain treks. There’s the Waldstätterweg, the famous Swiss Path and the spectacular route over the Hochflue – to name just a few. Another popular hiking trail is the Erlebnisweg, which features geological information about how Gersau was formed, as well as fun facts about the local flora and fauna. Plus, there’s an exciting photo orienteering game that you can play to explore Gersau. More details are available from the tourist information centre.

From 21 May to 11 October 2020, the mountain bus with local bus driver Roman Rickenbacher (he knows the area like the back of his hand, you can ask him anything...) will be travelling from the Gersau boat station to Obergschwend. From there you can take the cable car to Rigi Burggeist.

Spielplatz Gersau2

There are three centrally located public playgrounds in Gersau. The quay playground by the lake is ideal for small children and has a fabulous view of the mountains, so it’s also popular among parents. The playground at the Rosenpark nursing home is located in a quiet neighbourhood and is also open to the public. A modern ‘tube playground’ for school-age children can be found on Schulhausplatz square behind the old town hall.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing enthusiasts looking for sky-high thrills with magnificent views are spoilt for choice in the region around Gersau. There are five rock climbing areas above Gersau and even a few multi-pitch climbs in Theddys Gärtli on the Rigi Hochflue. The climbing areas feature ascents with different levels of difficulty, so they’re suitable for rock climbers of varying abilities. Some of the rock walls are south-facing and can therefore also be climbed in winter, depending on the weather.

Please note: If you wish to climb in the Föhnenberg/Oberholz area, you need to register in advance with the landowner.
