Rigi Light Festival
06.02 – 28.02.2026

For the first time, the Queen of the Mountains becomes the setting for a new winter light art experience. The Rigi Light Festival invites visitors to enjoy a scenic 1.5-kilometer evening walk, during which the mountain landscape is transformed into a walkable lightscape after dark.

The festival is designed as a calm and unhurried winter experience. It features no sound installations and is created with great respect for nature and the surrounding environment.

  • Along the flat and traffic-free path between Rigi Kaltbad and Rigi First, visitors discover eleven carefully curated light installations. International artists interpret the winter scenery, the topography, and the unique atmosphere of Mount Rigi in different ways. Some works are poetic and serene, while others are abstract and surprising.

Rather than focusing on individual artworks, the festival follows a shared artistic concept. The installations unfold as a continuous experience along the route and combine landscape, architecture, and light into a cohesive overall composition.

An additional light installation illuminates the lakeside promenade in Weggis between the Tourist Information Center and the bus station. Gentle light and reflections enhance the atmosphere along the waterfront.

  • Friday, 06.02.2026 through Saturday, 28.02.2026
    Daily from 5:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

The light installations are located between St. Michael’s Rock Chapel in Rigi Kaltbad, the Kaltbad village square, and along the path leading to the alpine cheese dairy in Rigi First.

  • Viewing the light installations is free of charge.

A valid train ticket is required for arrival and departure. For arrivals after 3:55 p.m., there is a special day ticket available for CHF 30.00, which entitles you to a return trip from Goldau, Vitznau, or Weggis.
