Steeped in history
Locomotive No. 7 - a story that connects. Our locomotive 7 is steaming up the Rigi again. The comfortable heavyweight with a top speed of 7.5 km/h has been thrilling young and old for generations. Find out more about the historic steam locomotive on this page and immerse yourself in the world of the Rigi Railways.
The work is done. Locomotive No. 7, alias Sibni, is once again steaming up the Queen of the Mountains. The steam locomotive was built in 1873 by the Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik SLM in Winterthur. After 64 years of service, it was decommissioned in 1937. In 1959, it was moved to the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne and now back to the Rigi. This heartfelt wish was made possible not least thanks to the Rigi Historic Foundation. The foundation is committed to preserving the historic vehicles and buildings on the Rigi.
A Milestone Award is given to those who successfully implement innovative projects in Swiss tourism on a sustainable basis. At the Milestone 2021 award ceremony, the Lok 7 was awarded one of these coveted stones.
