Here you will find the answers to most frequently asked questions about your trip to the Queen of the Mountains.

Overview
  • The most comfortable way to buy your Rigi Mountain Railways ticket, is to buy it online in our webshop

    Tickets are also available from numerous outlets across Switzerland. You can purchase Rigi from many SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) train stations, at the boat station of Lake Lucerne as well as in the Tourist Information Office in Lucerne.

  • Toboggan runs and ski lifts on Mount Rigi can be used free of charge (excl. Seebodenalp). A valid ticket is required for cogwheel trains and aerial cable cars (GA valid!). Children up to and including the age of 15 travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult.

    The Rigi Sport Kiosk offers skis and boots for rental.

  • You can not reserve the sledges, we have a «first come first serve» policy. We offer a total of 300 sledges at the Rigi Kulm Rental Center.

    Should the availability run low, we inform accordingly on our Website.

  • Holders of the following tickets can travel free of charge with Mount Rigi Railways:

    • GA Travelcard
    • Day Travel Pass
    • Tell-Pass
    • Swiss Travel Pass
    • Swiss Transfer Ticket

    Holders of the following tickets can enjoy 50% off on the regular price with Mount Rigi Railways:

    • Half-Fare Travelcard
    • Eurail/Interrail Pass

  • A regular day ticket costs CHF 78 per adult. A day ticket allows you to enjoy unrestricted travel with Mount Rigi Railways within 1 day. Holders of a valid GA travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass can travel with Rigi Mountain Railways for free. 

    All children until and with the age of 15 accompanied by an adult travel free of charge on the Mount Rigi railways.

  • The route from Vitznau/Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad costs CHF 58.00. With the Half-Fare Card you pay CHF 29.00. And if you have the GA travelcard, you can travel for free.

  • Seat reservations are not obligatory at Mount Rigi Railways. But if you are travelling in groups of 10 persons or more, we recommend that you secure your seats prior to arrival. For seat reservations you can call +41 41 399 87 87 or send us an email at welcome@rigi.ch. Seat reservations are free of charge. 

  • For an accurate status check on the weather, we suggest you take a look at our live webcams. Please bear in mind, weather conditions can change in the mountains at any time

  • To reach the summit of Mt. Rigi, you have various options. The most convenient way to reach the top is by taking the cogwheel train from Vitznau or Arth-Goldau. To experience something different, why not take the aerial cable car from Weggis to Kaltbad, where you have an onward connection to Rigi Kulm by cogwheel train.

    • Weggis via Rigi Kaltbad to Rigi Kulm approx. 40 Minutes by aerial cable car and cogwheel train
    • Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm approx. 40 Minutes cogwheel train
  • Yes. Mt. Rigi is here for everyone. Our train staff is experienced and glad to assist travelers with strollers, wheelchair or any mobility aids for getting on and off the train. Please let us know if you need any help. You can find various barrier-free routes and facilities to discover the Queen of the Mountains here.
