Every year on Pentecost and on August 1st, the Rigi Railways celebrate the Rigi Historic XXL-Days. Many scheduled trains operate with the world’s only historic rolling stock of its kind.

On Pentecost, numerous scheduled trains featuring historically unique rolling stock from around the world will be in operation. Travelling is possible with a valid ticket and without reservation. At Rigi Staffel, live commentary will provide fascinating background information about the arriving trains.
A special highlight is the steam train journey with locomotive No. 16 from 1923, departing from Vitznau. (Already sold out – additional dates here)
Another highlight is the aircraft parade, where around 20 historic aircraft of various types will circle Rigi Kulm at eye level with spectators. In the summit area near the antenna, a presenter will accompany the event with interesting background information about the passing aircraft.
The parade is planned between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm and will take place subject to suitable flying weather conditions. Information about its operation will be published on rigi.ch the day before. (Alternative date: August 1, 2026).

Historic Airplanes
AUGUST 1, 2026
On Swiss National Day, scheduled trains will also run using historic rolling stock. At Rigi Staffel, a live commentary will provide additional insights into the passing historic vehicles and their history.
Steam train rides are also planned for August 1:
- from Vitznau with Locomotive No. 16
- from Goldau with Locomotive No. 7
